I have spent a lot of my fitness career being very dedicated.
Dedicated to my training in every way.
I have also spent a lot of time feeling very unmotivated.
Finally, but most important to this post, I have spent a lot of time beating myself up over the “back-and-forth” emotions between motivation, dedication, and the lack thereof.
The last paragraph is so important to emphasize because beating ourselves up over this is the last thing we should be doing.
It takes away from any productivity or success that we could possibly have.
I know, easier said than done.
But less is better than more in this regard.
We tend to beat ourselves up over our own unrealistic expectations.
I initially thought that I should always be motivated and fully excited everyday.
That false expectation was a recipe for frustration.
Once I realized that dedication is what matters, and dedication means consistency despite feeling motivated, I was in a much better place.
Finally, it is incredibly important to understand this: If you are rarely motivated OR dedicated, than you need to re-evaluate your goals.
Maybe it’s not the right goal for you right now.
Maybe you just need to dig deeper into why that goal matters.
Whatever it is, you should feel a compelling drive of dedication towards what you are putting your time into.
Having a clear goal and choosing consistency over feelings/emotions is a great takeaway here!! Thank you Harros!
Thank you for giving what you took away! Helpful for me. I’m so glad it helped!
