Today’s post is a guest post written by my (badass) girlfriend.
Her story is a perfect example of how strength training can impact one’s life for the better – physically, mentally and emotionally.
Hope to see your comments below on the subject as it’s one we can all relate to in some way. Enjoy!
“There is nothing more satisfying than conquering the seemingly unconquerable.
I first started going to the gym in July of 2019 and at that time, I believed the only way to lose weight was to do cardio.
I didn’t think strength training was important.
Back then, elliptical exercises and yoga classes made up the entirety of my gym routine. They were all I knew at the time and all that I thought I enjoyed. Granted, I love yoga and continue to prioritize it in my morning routine, I realized that I didn’t know much about lifting weights and was terrified to try it.
What I now realize is that those fears were only in my mind, and that lifting weights isn’t scary at all.
Today, I am grateful and happy because my routine has evolved. For the past 10 months, I’ve been lifting weights and learning, little-by-little, every day. I’ve been taking care of my body and training without any of the old pressure that I put on myself.
Yesterday, I had a personal strength record in a simulated Strongman Yoke Walk (carried someone on my shoulders,) and carried 160lb x 100 yards.
I could not feel any better right now.
I discovered just how strong the human body and mind can be and I am definitely going for more.
I want to invite you to keep trying and to always remember that your limitations are only in your imagination.”
